Which silica rule does this follow?

OSHA’s respirable crystalline silica standard for construction, 29 CFR 1926.1153, with the permissible exposure limit of 50 micrograms per cubic metre as an 8-hour time-weighted average and an action level of 25.

What does the competent person actually have to do under the rule?

1926.1153 requires the employer to designate a competent person to make frequent and regular inspections of job sites, materials and equipment, and to implement the written exposure control plan. That designation is an employer decision.

Does this course designate anyone as the competent person?

No. It builds awareness of what the role involves. The employer designates the individual and gives them the authority to take prompt corrective action, which no course can confer.

What is Table 1 and does the course cover it?

Table 1 in 1926.1153 lists common construction tasks with specified dust control methods and respiratory protection. Employers who fully and properly implement the controls for a listed task are not required to conduct separate exposure assessments for it. The course explains how the table is meant to be used.

Do we still need a written exposure control plan?

Yes. The written plan stays an employer obligation under the standard, and this training does not create, replace or approve it.
